May 7, 2005 No updates in a while. All of the usual excuses apply, but at the end of the day we are still here and still dedicated to the cause. A lot of time has passed since the last update, and a whole new year cruelly lurched it's way into the present in the meantime. Since absolutely nothing worthwhile has happened here since 2005 reared it's malicious head and took a huge financial bite out of us, we decided to wait to do an update until there was something like good news to report. And now we have that: SINKING SHIPS is a new NW band that plays a nearly forgotten style of melodic hardcore that is, literally, music to our ears. These guys put out the best NW demo we have heard in years, and then were kind enough to allow us to release a slightly reworked and remixed version of it as a 7". The first pressing of 500 copies has only been out a short time, and with no advertising and almost no distribution this pressing is already 2/3 of the way sold out. If you are interested, and you should be, get yourself a copy right away while you can still get this numbered, clear vinyl version. Check out our MAILORDER section for info on how to do that. And you can check out the SINKING SHIPS website here for more information on them as well. THE HORDE is a Portland, OR based band that features one Mr. Aaron Edge on drums, and who released a cool 7" on 1-2-3-4 GO! RECORDS a while back before just kind of disappearing. Well, apparently that was just a temporary break as the band has returned with a vengeance and a kick ass new recording. We are working out the details to releasing the 7" version, and we will have more info as this gets closer to being a reality. For the time being, you can check out THE HORDE at their site here. ABRAHAM LINCOLN KILLING MACHINE. The German release of THE EDGE OF QUARREL on DVD is imminent. The fine folks at SUNNY BASTARDS FILMS are responsible for this version, and if you can read German you can check out the details here. There is still no release date for a USA version DVD as of yet, but it will happen eventually. In other news, Danny Hesketh is our new intern. I have become a poker dealer to pay the bills. Straight Edge is still not cool and pretty much still the most important thing ever. Matt Matsuoka is the craziest person alive. Life is good, even if it sucks so much of the time. Dave October 20, 2004 OK, Quick update! There is a Record Release Show for the POWER OF TEN compilation 7" this Saturday at the Paradox. Check out the flyer HERE, and check the Paradox's site HERE. It's a free show, and the first 100 people through the door get a copy of the record FREE. Come check it out and get a free 7"! Dave July 15, 2004 After more than two years of begging and pleading for the songs, we finally have all of the tracks together for the next volume of the POWER OF TEN compilation 7" series. While the long delay means that a few of the bands on this volume are no longer with us, it has also resulted in one surprise addition to the record that we weren't expecting but are extremely excited for. BETWEEN EARTH AND SKY is a new band fronted by ex-TRIAL singer, filmmaker, professional juggler, and all around good guy GREG BENNICK, backed up musically by a bunch of Canadians from bands with names like BY A THREAD and STRAIN. And we've got their first song - all 1 glorious minute of it - for the new comp. In other news, THE ANSWER and DEAD IN HOLLYWOOD are both gearing up for some summer touring. While they had to cancel the July portion of the tour that would have brought them out to the pre-Posi Numbers show, THE ANSWER are still planning to make their way out East this August. DEAD IN HOLLYWOOD, on the other hand, are still on target for their West Coast trip in mid-August that was supposed to include multiple shows with GIVE UP THE GHOST, until those guys lived up the their name. Both bands have CDs out on EXCURSION, and THE ANSWER have a 7" version of "You Had Your Chance" out on ANCHOR RECORDS, so watch for these guys to come your way this summer and pick up some music from them in the meantime. And speaking of touring, HIMSA are back out on yet another leg of their never ending world domination campaign. We help a little with getting the merch from their website out, and they just posted a bunch of new shirt designs, so check out the goods on their site in the MEMENTOS section. Dave March 28, 2004 OK, I am willing to admit that my resolution to keep this thing updated more frequently hasn't really been as successful as I intended. The truth is, there just hasn't been anything much of interest to post up here over the last couple of months. There has been some progress on the Botch final show DVD editing, but nothing that has advanced it far enough to be newsworthy. Other than that, the focus has been on moving and working a worthless day job while getting new releases together. It has kind of sucked, to be completely honest. But now I have a new place to live with 90% of Excursion located at a separate address (a first!) and two brand new releases to tell you about, so things are looking up indeed. THE ANSWER - The first CD from these guys is out now. "You Had Your Chance" contains 14 songs - 7 from the 1st 7" recording session and 7 brand new recorded tracks. This is Northwest Straight Edge Hardcore at its finest, as evidenced by any of their recent stage dive/sing along/pile on filled live shows. THE ANSWER have just returned from their latest West Coast tour and will certainly be back out on the road soon, so in the meantime your job is to get this CD and learn all the songs so you can wreck shop the next time you see them. DEAD IN HOLLYWOOD - These ex-Hardesty folks have come through with a self-titled 7 song CD that makes good on the promise that was their demo. Angry HC with a more than just a touch of the Rock, this is truly great stuff that we here at Excursion are proud to present. UNDERTOW - Haven't had any news regarding these guys in recent years, and Excursion has not had any of this band's releases available for a long time, but that is about to change as Indecision Records prepares to release the UNDERTOW complete discography CD. HIMSA - Still constantly on tour and kicking ass. (Perhaps you saw them hanging out on Headbangers Ball with Mr. Jasta a while back?) That's all for now. Power of Ten Volume 2 is up next and it will have a very nice surprise on it, but until it's a bit closer we're going to keep that one under wraps.
December 30, 2003 The year is at an end and it finds me back in the day to day drudgery of a 9 to 5 job. Little might seem to have been happening with the label over the past couple of months, and while the day to day productivity has indeed dropped off due to my hopefully temporary wage slavery, there have been advancements made that are soon to become apparent. New CDs by THE ANSWER and DEAD IN HOLLYWOOD have been recorded and are in the works. THE ANSWER have a pre-release version of their latest with them on their West Coast Tour right now, and the DEAD IN HOLLYWOOD is mastered and the artwork is being put together as we speak. These are two excellent records that Excursion is proud to be releasing, and we have every confidence that you will be hearing a lot more about both of these bands soon. Other good news at the moment includes the fact that TO SEE YOU BROKEN are out right now on a West Coast Tour in support of HIMSA, the ladies have a sweet new website at www.toseeyoubroken.com, and that the second volume of the POWER OF TEN 7" series is nearly complete. More news will be made available as it arrives, but for the moment, it's off to my stupid job.
September 23, 2003 Well, the summer is over, and we would have to say it was a pretty good one on our end. Northwest Hardcore is alive and well, Excursion bands TO SEE YOU BROKEN and THE ANSWER went out on successful tours, and plans have been made for a number of cool new releases for the fall/winter. The long delayed HARDESTY - "What Doesn't Make Us Stronger Only Kills Us" LP is finally nearing completion. This was the last of the Entropy Project/Staygold/Hardesty member bands. If you've heard these bands, you know that these guys have been responsible for some of the best music to come out of the NW. Hardesty called it a day when their singer moved out of the state. This vinyl version of their CD on 12 Volt Records was in progress at the time, so rather than stop it completely we decided to go ahead with a very limited version. There will only be 200 copies of this record - colored vinyl and numbered and all of that usual good stuff. More details will be made available soon. DEAD IN HOLLYWOOD are a NW band featuring the members of Hardesty who are still in Seattle. Plans are underway now for a recording that will be released on Excursion as a CD/7" and a track on the next POWER OF TEN compilation 7". THE ANSWER are currently in the studio recording the follow up to their 7". This new recording will see the light in at least 3 places: Most of these new tracks and the songs from their 1st 7" recording will be combined on a CD to be released in November on Excursion. Anchor Records will be releasing a 7" version of the new songs, and at least 2 tracks will be going to Stab and Kill Records for a 4 way split with BLUE MONDAY, ROSARY, and GO IT ALONE. TO SEE YOU BROKEN are back from a month on the road and writing songs for a new recording. To read up on some of their adventures on tour, check out their livejournal at: HOODS UP Clothing is still in the early stages of development. So far we have released 2 items - a hooded sweatshirt and a T-shirt, but there are more designs in the works even now. All we have left from the first batch are some large T-shirts, which will be listed in the MAILORDER section.
Check out our temporary web page at: The HERE'S YOUR WARNING Free NW Hardcore compilation CD has been out all summer and we have managed to give away almost 2000 copies. Bands featured on this CD are: Champion, Pistols At Dusk, To See You Broken, The Answer, Hardesty, Rosary, Mav Comai, Positively Negative, Staygold, 14 Days Of Terror, Divinity Of Truth, Dead In Hollywood, Himsa, Left With Nothing, Blue Monday, Cold Sweat, The Entropy Project, Lahar, Screwjack, Botch, Deadsure, The Hit, and Waxwing. A number of these songs are exclusive to this CD. You can get this CD for free by ordering anything from Excursion, or if you just want the CD you can get a copy for just the price of shipping: $1.00 USA, $2.00 Canada/Mexico, $5.00 World. Cash only for this deal - Send it to the P. O. Box. Rumors of a WAXWING show this December keep circulating, but are as of yet unconfirmed. That is all for now. June 27, 2003 The HIMSA Picture Disk LPs and the HERE'S YOUR WARNING free NW Hardcore Compilation CDs are finished and ready to go. Check the Mailorder page for more info on those. We'll be away on tour with CHAMPION from July 1st to the 19th, so any orders that come in during that time will be filled as soon as we get back. Check the message board as there will surely be some reports from the road. June 9, 2003 THE ANSWER are out on a West Coast Tour right now. Things started out a little rough when their van decided to break down only 20 miles out of Seattle, but the boys managed to pull it together, purchase another van (in 3 hours on a Saturday morning before 10:00), and get back on the road with only the first show of the tour lost (Gilman). So far they have played reportedly great shows in San Diego, Tijuana, and Reno, and have 6 more nights to go. June 10th Tues- Santa Cruz, CA w/ Terror/ Most Precious Blood Definitely check them out if you get a chance. May 12, 2003 Hey all, we just got word that Mr. Greg Bennick's new film "Flight From Death" won the Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary this weekend at the Beverly Hills Film Festival. Greg says it rendered him speechless in front of the crowd, and if you know Greg at all that will tell you just how big of a deal this was for him. Congratulations Greg! On to the label news. Summer is near, and many of the projects we have been talking about are finally seeing the light of day: THE ANSWER - 1st 7" is out now and we couldn't be happier with it. This record marks the first time since UNDERTOW that Excursion has been able to promote a record that is absolutely Straight Edge and active and we are just plain stoked. This EP contains 5 bursts of youthful enthusiasm mixed with equal parts anger and hope. (With the requisite colored vinyl and special covers, of course.) There will be much more to come from this band in the future, and if we have our way it's going to be happening with us. Catch them on their West Coast tour in June, and check out the info on their new 7" on the MAILORDER page. THE EDGE OF QUARREL - DVD (Spanish Edition) is out now on CYDONIA FILMS. This version is a Region 2, PAL DVD and the movie has been dubbed into Spanish! Check CYDONIA FILMS for all the details (it might help if you can read Spanish). A German released English language version is up next, followed closely by the USA release version on Excursion. (Late summer at best for that one.) STATE ROUTE 522 - A couple of years back we had an opportunity to buy a leftover box of SR522's 1st 7" from Henry's Finest Recordings. These records had no covers or lyric sheets and had basically been forgotten. Well, we finally got around to making some new covers and releasing these copies as the "Final Press." There are only 110 copies of this record available, and this really is the last of them. If you are unfamiliar with this record then you have been missing out on one of the best melodic hardcore records the Northwest has produced. Some might say that this was too pop to be considered HC, but that was the place they came from. They even started off as a Straight Edge band. 1995. Good Times. Members also played in Screwjack and went on to play in Sharks Keep Moving and Minus The Bear. Check the MAILORDER page for more info HIMSA - "Courting Tragedy and Disaster" - This record finally nails the sound that Himsa had only been hinting at in the past. A vinyl version of this HC/Metal masterpiece is still coming out on Excursion, but we've made some changes to just exactly how that is going to happen. Now, instead of a 12" record with hand screened covers as we reported before, it is going to be Excursion's first LP PICTURE DISK release. Only 666 copies will be made, and they are going to be numbered by hand on the picture inserts before the records are pressed. The release date is solidly mid-June and we are taking pre-orders now as we expect this one is going to go fast. You know where to go: MAILORDER. And check out that SWEET cover art! HARDESTY. - "What Doesn't Make Us Stronger Only Kills Us" LP - The test pressings are back for this one but final cover and pressing details are still up in the air somewhat. More news on this one as it becomes available. In other news, the GENUINE - "A Bond Still Strong" LP tracks have been combined with all previously recorded Genuine tracks and a slew of new songs featuring new guest singers and released as the "Bury The Hatchet" CD on State of Grace Records. We have copies of this available here, but you still might want to check out that label's site to get info or perhaps pick it up from them. A limited number of copies of the original "A Bond Still Strong" LP are still available as well. Many more things are beginning to take shape out there just past the range of vision. New bands. Cool new records. Perhaps a Botch DVD? Could be. Maybe there will actually be a new movie produced by Excursion one of these days? Who knows. Just keep checking back to see what's new. And definitely check the contest page 'cause you never know what's going to turn up on there.
March 15, 2003 Well, it has been almost three months since we've put a news update up here and much has happened in that time. In January I, Dave Larson, lost my day job as an optical alignment technician. That was the job where I pointed lasers at things. It was the fourth round of company layoffs and my whole department got the ax. Oh well. The plan since then has been full time work on Excursion. It doesn't pay as well at the moment, but the emotional salary is quite lucrative. Most of the time between that last day of work and now, excluding one week off to follow the BANE / CHAMPION / TIME IN MALTA West Coast tour, has been spent getting new projects together and released. Here's a breakdown of what's out and what is coming: WAXWING. The limited LP version of "Nobody Can Take What Everybody Owns" is out now in a hand numbered out of 700 on purple vinyl edition. About half of these records are now gone. Due to its limited nature most of my distributors have not been offered this to carry, so the best way to get a copy is to order it straight from us. THE ENTROPY PROJECT / SCREWJACK. This split LP is also out now. We got these finished up and ready to go Thursday night. (Thanks for the help as usual, Bill and Adam) There are only 400 copies of this record available and there is not going to be a re-press. Once these are gone, that's it. Both of these bands have songs on the "Power of Ten" compilation 7" as well. THE ENTROPY PROJECT, a HC SXE band that was made up of yet another shuffling of the dudes in Staygold and Hardesty, provide 5 of the 6 songs from their demo. Time restrictions kept that last song of the record, but we will be releasing it on an upcoming free sampler CD. SCREWJACK was a SXE Hardcore band that I sang for in 1996 made up of guys from State Route 522 and nineironspitfire. 9 of our 10 recorded songs made it to this record. A suitable master copy of the 10th song could not be found in time for this release, but it might still show up on that free sampler eventually. This record is $7.00 pp in the states. See the MAILORDER page for all the details. THE EDGE OF QUARREL DVD. We finally got all of the extra material together and sent off for the DVD release of our movie. The extra features include a commentary track by Dave Larson and Greg Bennick (singer for the band TRIAL), a full deleted scene featuring Carrie Whitney and Ben Verellen, a 21+ minute outtake reel of cut scenes, bloopers, and random extras, a music video for Rocky Votolato's "Without Eyes Still Seeing, " and more. CYDONIA FILMS out of Spain will have the first version available, complete with a full Spanish language dub of the movie. This version will be a PAL format DVD and available only in Spain. Make sure to go to the CYDONIA FILMS site and check out the cover art and also the info on their DVD releases of Matt Matsuoka's films HEARTBREAK BEAT and FOR THE CASH. Shortly after this a company in Germany will be releasing an original language version of THE EDGE OF QUARREL DVD in PAL format as well. And hopefully, if all goes well, Excursion will be releasing a domestic version later this year - possibly even by the end of summer. More news will be posted on this as it becomes available. Also, recent Excursion releases from TO SEE YOU BROKEN, LEFT WITH NOTHING, and BOTCH are still available or back in stock, as well as a number of new non-Excursion items that we are distributing. Check out the MAILORDER section for all the info. UPCOMING RELEASES: THE ANSWER. A new Straight Edge band from Seattle. Their 1st 5 song 7" is at the plant being pressed right now in order to be out in time for a west coast tour in early April. Baring any complications, we should have these records ready to go in three weeks and we're stoked. Check out their MP3s at www.hardcoremusic.com/theanswer to hear why. HARDESTY. The vinyl LP version of their "What Doesn't Make Us Stronger Only Kills Us" CD is almost ready to go. The test pressings have been approved and now it's just a matter of getting the artwork and money together for this one. This record is a month away at least. HIMSA. A vinyl version of their brand new full length will be coming out on Excursion in an edition of 666 numbered copies with hand screened covers. This record is still being mixed, but we will be striving to match the CD release date for the vinyl release. We just don't know exactly when that is yet. POWER OF TEN - VOLUME 2. Another ten song compilation 7" featuring the best in NW hardcore. Bands scheduled for this volume include CHAMPION, HARDESTY, THE ANSWER, ROSARY, PISTOLS AT DUSK, MAV COMAI, 14 DAYS OF TERROR, and more. Not everyone has their stuff recorded for this one yet so the release date will depend on that. THE FREE SAMPLER CD. An as-of-yet unnamed sampler CD in the style of the old "Excursion Compilation" CD. This CD will contain tracks from new Excursion releases as well as songs from other related NW bands releases and demos. And it will be completely free. This will probably see the light of day in the early summer. Well, that's about everything for right now. Keep checking back to the site as we are going to update a number of the other areas soon and will probably have a new contest up before long. And feel free to go say hello on our message board - We could use some new blood!
December 26, 2002 As of today, and for the next year, I will be referring to myself as "two 16 year olds" whenever I am asked my age. It will be good. It will be one of the few good results of a year that was pretty punishing for most of the people I know. I don't think many will miss 2002 much, other than in the way you half-fondly reflect on a situation that beat your ass so badly that it built your character. You end up glad for the personal growth, but you wouldn't willingly want to repeat it. 2002 was just like that. People lost their jobs, their relationships, and their bands - but most seemed to have come through to this point, if not unscathed, at least not completely disfigured, and more ready than ever to step into a whole new calendar and leave this wreck of a year on the ash-heap of history. Or maybe it's just me? . Nah. This year sucked. Dave Larson PS: The label was one thing that I must stress did NOT suck for me in 2002, except for the fact of a band or two breaking up and some delays for some projects. One of the projects that has been slightly delayed is the WAXWING LP. This record should have been available by now, but has been pushed back to the first week of January due to the usual (but true) pressing plant problem excuse. This has caused the release of the ENTROPY PROJECT / SCREWJACK split LP to be pushed back a month as well. Look for that one in February. Early 2003 will bring a host of new announcements regarding new Excursion projects and plans. Check back soon for more details. October 16, 2002 It's been a while since the last update so we've got a few items to cover: WAXWING. Excursion has been granted the honor of releasing the vinyl version of the new Waxwing record, and we are pretty damn excited about it. "Nobody Can Take What Everybody Owns" will be released on LP in a limited edition of only 700 copies, and we're even going to number them for you too. We are waiting for the test pressings to be delivered even as this is being written, so the release date is now only a few weeks off at most. We are selling these LPs by mailorder for $8.00 each postage paid in the USA, and we are accepting pre-orders now. PAYPAL. We have started accepting online payments for orders using Paypal. The minimum for a Paypal order is $7.00. If you would like to use this payment option, E-mail us here at Excursion with your location and a list of what you want and we'll send you back the total and the Paypal account info. BOTCH. Remember how there was talk of a DVD version of Botch's last show? Well, it still is happening. We will be getting rough mixes of the live sound this week and will soon thereafter begin the long labor of love that will be piecing together the best possible version of the show that we can get out of the five camera angles we captured that night. If all goes well Hydra Head will love it and the DVD will become a reality sometime next year. TO SEE YOU BROKEN. The ladies made it home from tour unscathed and still down to rock. The 7 " version of "A Thief, A Poet, An Enemy " is nearly ready to go and should be out in about a week. They are $4.00 each and mailorders are going to get the color copies. SCREWJACK / THE ENTROPY PROJECT. Before the end of the year we will be releasing a split LP from two bands who had tracks on the "Power of Ten" NWHC Compilation. The Entropy Project was a 1/3 part of a great rock trilogy that also included Staygold and Hardesty. These three bands were made up of different combinations of mostly the same people, but now with some of those people moving on it looks like Hardesty may be the only survivor of the three. (The future of Staygold is reportedly uncertain at best) Screwjack was a band from 1996 made up of members of State Route 522 and nineironspitfire with that guy from some label called Excursion on vocals. They were originally called LIT, and had a song on the Excursion Compilation CD under that name, before that other LIT got popular and forced a name change. This record contains 5 songs form The Entropy Project and 9 from Screwjack, and there are only going to be 400 copies made. The price for mailorder will be $7.00, but this one is still one to two months away. Other projects for the future include a vinyl version of the HARDESTY CD (You have heard Hardesty, haven't you?), another volume of the "Power of Ten" NW Hardcore Compilation 7" series, and some other cool stuff that is as of now just in the rumor/scheming stage. Plus the site will slowly have new features added like the ZINE and DOWNLOAD sections which have buttons but lead nowhere so far. And a new contest may be in the works soon as well. We are also going to be adding a pile of new distro items to the MAILORDER section over the next couple of days, so give that a look and see if we can persuade you to part with any of that hard-earned cash. August 16, 2002 The TO SEE YOU BROKEN - "A Thief, A Poet, An Enemy" and LEFT WITH NOTHING - "Good Things Come to Those Who Wait" CDs are now finished and available. The 7" version of the TSYB CD is still in the works, but we are taking pre-orders now, and mailorder folks are going to get color vinyl. While supplies last, of course. TO SEE YOU BROKEN are getting ready to head out for the East Coast portion of their summer tour and they still need to get a few dates nailed down. 8/25 Chicago * means they have a show set up, but if you think you can help out with a show, or might know someone who can, in or around any of the other areas, please get in touch with the ladies through Carey at Endure24@aol.com. And by all means go check them out if they're playing near you! August 15, 2002 15 years today. XXX. June 20, 2002 BOTCH's last show has now come and gone, and for those who were not able to attend all I can say is "I'm sorry", because you missed out on something huge. The boys were in top form on Saturday, with excellent sound, some nice final words, and a healthy dose of chaos and destruction. A few of us sought to immortalize this event in stunning digital video, and the early indications are that we succeeded beyond our expectations. There is still a lot of tape to go through, but once we get it all edited together with the live mix it will be presented to the folks at Hydra Head Records for a possible DVD release. It all depends on the quality of the final edited piece, but I don't think that will be a problem because we have some seriously GREAT footage to work with. Thanks to Bill Baker, Adam Paysse, Matt Matsuoka, and Jake Snider for being a kick-ass camera crew. And thanks to Dave K., Dave V., Tim, and Brian for being one of the best bands I'll ever get the chance to hear or see. You will be missed. HARKONEN were one of the opening acts at the extravaganza this last weekend and it was first time in a long while that I have had a chance to see them. They were impressive to say the least. These guys sure have come a long way since their 7" on Excursion, with their New Grunge style and a full length recording due out soon on Hydra Head. We couldn't be happier for them! Look for some of our video from their Botch finale performance to be included as enhanced content on the new CD. Oh yeah, the BOTCH "Unifying Themes Redux" CD is out now. Check the Mailorder or Discography sections for info. In other news, the new TO SEE YOU BROKEN CD is being manufactured this very minute at a plant somewhere in the East, and should certainly be ready in time for the ladies to take it out on tour in July. I got to see them play last night with LEFT WITH NOTHING at the Paradox here in Seattle and I was stoked to see how well they are pulling their set together. There have been few all-female HC bands out there over the years, and even fewer that were any good. TO SEE YOU BROKEN is going to go down as one of, if not THE, best female HC bands ever. You just watch. The new LEFT WITH NOTHING CD is also very close to completion, with just some art and layout work to be done before it can be sent off. The guys have also finished writing a pile of new songs for their upcoming release on Rise Records, which I'm sure will be brutal and relentless and angry, and will make us all very happy. These guys will be out on tour in August and will have the Excursion CD with them, so check them out if they come to your neck of the woods. Tour dates are listed on their page on the Rise site. There will be 7" vinyl of both the new TO SEE YOU BROKEN and LEFT WITH NOTHING releases, but we can't say when exactly, because record pressing plants suck ass. And finally, the POWER OF TEN showcase at the Paradox is just over one week away now, and I was informed that 2 more of the bands from the comp. have been scheduled to play, bringing the total to seven! Seven current NWHC bands on the same bill! And that still leaves a ton of great NWHC bands that aren't playing, like CHAMPION, HARDESTY, LEFT WITH NOTHING, NO RETURN, COLD SWEAT, CARMENZITO, and BLUE MONDAY just to name a few off the top of my head. The NWHC scene rules at this moment in time in a way that has no comparison in it's history. Come check it out next Saturday!
May 31, 2002 I know, I know, it's been a long time between updates. They will certainly be more frequent in the future as there are many distant shapes on the Excursion Horizon. And some not-so-distant items as well - The closest being the BOTCH - "Unifying Themes Redux" CD. This CD includes the 9 songs from the original "Unifying Themes of Sex, Death, and Religion" CD plus a number of other demo, 7", Comp., and unreleased tracks. We expect to have these out within the next two weeks, just in time for Botch's final show, an unfortunate event that will be taking place on June 15th at The Showbox in Seattle. For those who will not be unable to attend, there are plans in the works to film this last performance and possibly release it on video and/or DVD. Look for more info on that later in the summer. To See You Broken and Left With Nothing will both have new releases out on Excursion this summer as well. To See You Broken's "A Thief, A Poet, An Enemy" 7"/CD is planned for a July release and Left With Nothing's new 7"/CD is planned for August in order to coincide with both bands touring plans. More info will be made available regarding both the records and the tours as the dates get closer. Some kind folks have gone ahead and set up a POWER OF TEN Compilation Showcase at The Paradox in Seattle. This matinee show will take place on June 29, 2002 starting at 2 PM and will feature Himsa, Positively Negative, Spitting Teeth, The November Group, and To See You Broken. There will be a special, limited version of the Compilation 7" available only at this show. We have been working on this for a while now, and are pretty excited about how they're turning out. That's all I will say about it for now, other than the fact that there will only be around 50 copies available, so come out to the show early if you want to be sure to get your hands on one! In other news, questions have been trickling in for Matt on the "Ask Matt" page and we have been impressed with the caliber of the inquiries as well as the restraint and professionalism Matt has shown with his responses. Of course, this restraint flies out the window as soon as he starts posting on our new message board, but we have less control over his actions in that area and must therefore stress that if you post, you do so at your own risk.
February 2002 - Welcome to the new Excursion website! So what's the deal, you ask? Well, let's see... Excursion has been largely inactive as a record label since the release of the movie "The Edge of Quarrel" in early 2000. After the movie was finished I concentrated on getting it out to festivals and out on video, but the serious lack of money and energy that followed that endeavor left me unable and pretty much unwilling to do anything on the record front. I decided that however cool sounding being a filmmaker and record label owner might be, the fact of the matter was that I was almost 30, broke, and still working at Kinko's. So with crushing debt and some sort of strange post-project depression hanging over me, I set out to try to find a "real" job. Strangely enough, I found one. Now I spend my days pointing lasers at things. Seriously. That's the kind of job they let you have when you get older. It's pretty cool, actually, and I figure at this rate I'll be blowing things up for a living by 40. Well, one way or another, I guess. Anyway, a few months into my new job I started to get a serious itch to be working on my own projects again, and since I cashed out my Kinko's 401K to pay off most of that old debt of mine I figured it was about time to start racking up some new debt. Lucky for me there is a ton of great new music coming out of this area right now being made by a bunch of people I really like, so the opportunity to recklessly spend money I haven't earned yet looms larger and more tempting than ever. The Left With Nothing - "Wishing in Reverse" and
"Power of Ten" comp. 7"s are out now, and in the near future
Excursion will be releasing new records from Left With Nothing, To See
You Broken, Screwjack and The Entropy Project, plus a few items that are
still in the plotting and planning stage. So check out the new site, enter
my contest, Ask Matt for advice, and leave anonymous mean messages on the
message board (When we get that up and running).
